Christina Aguilera - ‘Genie In A Bottle’

Christina Aguilera was reportedly in attendance at the LA stop of old friend and sometime rival Britney Spears’ Femme Fatale tour a couple nights back. We’re taking this as a sign that they’re back to being best pals again, so we’re really comfortable talking about them in the same post. Actually, we bet Christina still wouldn’t want to share…

First up is the brilliant new Maroon 5 single ‘Moves Like Jagger’, featuring a tiny appearance from Ms Aguilera, and performed live last night on The Voice - the talent show both frontman Adam Levine and Christina are mentors on.

This is what ‘Moves Like Jagger’ sounds like if you illegally download it because it’s not available from iTunes:

Christina doesn’t actually appear until the final minute, but she’s a great addition to a song which is equal parts summery coolness and bloody sexy. Normally we advocate and applaud a restrained vocal performance from Christina, but yesterday when we listened we thought actually ‘Moves Like Jagger’ could probably benefit from an epic wail over the final chorus.

Unfortunately Christina didn’t oblige in the live performance which was nevertheless well executed. Best part is when the camera cuts to Cee Lo busting a move from his judging chair. You don’t get that from Simon Cowell. You won’t get it from Gary Barlow either.

All in all, 7/10. Much better than ‘Swagger Jagger’ but still a long way to go before it’s as effortlessly cool as the man himself.

Meanwhile, Britney premiered the new video for single ‘I Wanna Go’ early this morning. It is the best video of the Femme Fatale campaign so far and the second best video of the year (after Katy Perry’s ‘Last Friday Night’ but before Nicola’s ‘Beat Of The Drum’), leaving us with hope that a trend for personality-laden pop videos is emerging.

If you haven’t seen it, watch now:

The critics have all been on Britney’s side during this “comeback”. It feels like everyone has actually been rooting for her this time, and not secretly hoping she’ll fall on her lily white Louisiana ass. Could this feeling of goodwill be the reason why she’s looking so confident and happy lately? The ‘I Wanna Go’ video is colourful, cheeky, silly and clever or, as one Tweeter succinctly summed it up: “Badassney. Hotney. MicrophoneWhippinNey. AssGrabbinNey. Milkney. BlowKissney. Signney. SlayingYourFavoritesney. Flashney.” But it’s all very Britney - you only have to watch any interview footage of her to know she’s a bit of a goof. And then there’s that Thriller reference. Amazing.

Whatever the reasons, we’re just glad to see Brit up on her feet, looking hot and finding the fun. And isn’t it odd to think that little schoolgirl Britney Spears from the ‘…Baby One More Time’ video is a MILF now?
