We’d like to think that Oh My!’s business is our business, what with them bringing the house down a few weeks ago at our amazing monthly club night.

If you’re unfamiliar with Oh My! they are a female pop duo comprised of Alex and Jade, who have been working with Example and took their band name from the title of that brilliant Missy Elliott and Tweet single ‘Oops (Oh My)’. Cool.

Yesterday they released their first video for what we assumed was their first single, ‘Kicking And Screaming’. You can look at that video now:

Cool.

You can actually download ‘Kicking And Screaming’ for free though, so unless there are some new eligibilty rules we’re unaware of, file this under “buzz” single. Here is ‘Kicking And Screaming’ minus visuals, plus a download linky:

OH MY! - Kicking And Screaming by OhMyOfficial

Cool.

In fact, if you visit Oh My!’s Soundcloud page, there’s quite a few free downloads to be had. Cool.

What we’re trying to say, folks, is that Oh My! are pretty damn cool.

PS. Our friends at TeenToday went on tour with Oh My! a little while ago and here’s a fun video of their adventures. SUPER COOL.

New releases this week from Love Machine favourite Nicola Roberts, Wonderland, Caro Emerald, The Kixx and Example. But which single should have you clicking “buy” in the iTunes store? Let us tell you…

Of course, the only song you should be buying this week and possibly for the rest of your life is ‘Beat Of My Drum’ by Nicola Roberts. It sounds like a pinball machine. It sounds like bubblegum popping. It sounds like ADD cheerleaders once the Ritalin has worn off. It’s an exceptionally good debut single from the best member of Girls Aloud and should definitely chart higher than Aggro Santos and Kimberley Walsh…

‘Changed The Way You Kiss Me’ by Example is already sitting pretty at the top of the iTunes chart and probably doesn’t need your help to take glory on Sunday. However it is the second best song released this week, so if Nicola doesn’t quite take your fancy (WHAT’S WRONG WITH YOU?) definitely give this one a try. It’s a massive club track about relationships told in that excellently blokey way Example has. We have Example’s friends Oh My! with us this coming Friday at Love Machine, so that’s another reason to get familiar with this song as they will most likely “give it a spin”.

Dutch singer Caro Emerald is a bit of a guilty pleasure. We tend not to bandy the term “guilty pleasure” about too much because why should you ever feel guilty for enjoying something? The thing is, we’re not quite sure what it is about Caro we enjoy, and that’s where the guilt comes from - ignorance and shame. We’re not alone though - in her homeland, she sat at #1 on the album charts for 30 weeks. That’s one week longer than previous record holder, Michael Jackson’s Thriller. ‘Stuck’ is a jaunty little retro number not nearly as good as her previous two singles, but good fun nonetheless.

Like a more disco version of McFly ‘Already Gone’ is the first single from new boyband The Kixx. Unlikely to appeal to many outside the teenage girl demographic, it’s still an energetic enough track to get your blood pumping. Not ground-breaking, but not ear-splitting either.

Admittedly, Wonderland are a distinctly average girlband and ‘Starlight’ is a distinctly average song, but it’s not without charm. The vocals are nice and the melody is nice and well, it’s just very inoffensive and lovely. Perhaps you wouldn’t actively seek this out to listen to, but you wouldn’t switch stations if it came on the radio.

Albums by Kylie and Scissor Sisters. The continued chart domination of dishwater American R’n’B. The rise of synthtastic British talent like Example and Hurts. Matt Cardle. Yes, delving into our drawer of end-of-year cliches, we proclaim 2010 in pop to be ‘a mixed bag’. If you’re after an executive summary, basically lots of things were very good indeed, but nothing was as good as Battlefield by Jordin Sparks.

We’ve gone through the archives to pick out the absolute highlights (and lowlights) of the year, and you can also also check out our Spotify playlist of all our 2010 highlights, including several tracks from our favourite new band, Cardio Workout Crew.

While preparing this list, we listened back to our 2009 highlights playlist to see how it stood up. In a word, surprisingly dated.
